The Cause

I awaken to a cloak of skin

Pigments dark and the world deems it a sin

Ashamed of these features I struggle between hatred and acceptance

But as I see my brothers and sisters suffer the hate begins to lessen

I am a man who was born this way without a choice

But I'm considered accursed as human brutality tries to muffle my voice

I am a black man I will scream it from the rafters

I want my children to no longer live in the bondage caused by there tormentors actions and laughter

I awaken to a being that is hard to accept

But I will lower my pride to insure many other like myself receive respect

Hands and arms locked we hold on to peaceful protest and we refuse to continue into appeasement

Some of our kin say we are crazy but they fail to realize their freedom is the reason

It's the reason why we march its the reason why we sit where law says we shouldn't

I've been asked would I shy away at the kiss of death and I constantly say that I wouldn't

My sacrifice is greater than myself my sacrifice is the planted seed

I pray to my mighty God asking for help, in His will I will not fail to believe

Just as He descended to die for our cause

We will descend to the various cities and towns ready to give all unafraid of the cost

I do this with individuals who have become collectivistic

We have power in numbers even if our dreams may be seemingly unrealistic

As I sit in this jail cell for protesting I spread my message like the apostle Paul

Freedom, liberty, and justice are part of my profession but the unity of all pigments is the greatest desire and profession of all
