it’s a miracle,

he tells you,

holding out his hands like

there’s some sort of salvation

like you’re some sort of salvation

 

he tells you that you were a flatline. that you

were dead on the table. that you

should be dead right now,

but look at you,

you’re a miracle,

like you’re a miracle.

 

and you shift in your seat and you

smile at him because

that’s what you do when people

talk about miracles

 

and what you don’t tell him is that

you’re still

a flatline.
