Caged Bird's Wish

By: Ryan Cross

1-4-17

I don’t know why the caged bird sings,

But I do know the song it belts,

A song of Freedom,

Freedom, something that I’ve never felt,

Freedom, something missing from this recipe for escape,

Freedom, something that we could never create,

Can it be that we live in a blind society where a caged bird cries and we never say a thing?

Hidden from the world like a grand treasure,

Precious like the stones in the earth’s skin,

Something of value that you can’t even measure,

Where is this caged bird?

I wouldn’t even know where to begin,

This poem is about:
Our world

Love this. Good perspective on a classic work of literature. :)
