Broken seas

Breathing
Walking
Sitting and talking
Simple acts taken for granted
Before it was not so simple
Society was broken and separate
Shattered into two divergent sides
“Justice” was “fair” and unchallenged
Until courage took over and won the hearts of many
The acts of walking and sitting were powerful
So powerful a tide of hope and change rose from the depths
Strong people rose up
Like Martin Luther king Jr. and Rosa Parks
Who were the guides and the one people followed
Instead of violence, peace was promoted
Often hatred was overwhelming
People were broken, exiled, and hurt
The two dividing seas of “differences” clashed and churned
Until the long lasting storm passed over, but not without a price
Many people died for justice and true freedom
Their voices remain in us today
Their lives are neither forsaken nor forgotten
Tears were shed along with the pains of relief
Courage, hope, and everything good was the tool of change
This was not a civil rights movement, but a movement of people seeking true justice
The virulent storm has passed
We will always remember what happened to achieve change
We will always be grateful
We will always remember
We are all equal
