Broken Light

Look what you’ve done again,
tossing me to the side.
Your choices are so clear,
but that doesn’t make it hurt less.
You always push me down further,
beneath the dirt under your feet.
Take a closer look,
maybe you’ll see the brokenness I hide.
You see that broken light?
You tore it apart a long time ago,
but you never noticed.
You wanna know what it feels like?
Like I’m never good enough,
not for you or anyone else.
I’ll keep breaking down,
I’ll keep hurting and hurting,
I’ll keep that broken light.
Sometimes, it doesn’t feel that broken.
Sometimes, I can smile without thinking.
You always take it away, though.
You always build me up
and then tear me down.
You’ll leave me in the dust
when something better comes along.
All that I’m left with?
A broken light that will never be mended.
