Broken Dreams

A rainbow of promise,

Blinded me to the truth.

Betrayal's harsh sting,

Cut away childhood roots.

Alone for the first time,

My eyes finally opened.

I saw a strangling darkness,

Overwhelm friends to choke them.

Still I believed I was different,

My dreams unique in their goals.

An approach wholly unique,

Throughout its highs and lows.

But eventually my wave of progress,

Plateaued at the lowest trough.

Transformed to a straight line,

All hope was lost.

My dreams became broken,

Whispers of a past I can't remember.

What is a future without goals?

Neither life nor death gets better.
