Breaking Free

Location

Look at me and can you see

The girl who’s staring back at me?

The one with blonde hair and hazel eyes

Whose feelings are kept bottled up inside.

People come and pass me by

Without a glance or a reply

My voice carries no appeal

As if they think that I’m not real

Can’t you see I’m different now?

Is there a way to show you how?

My spirit’s free; It strives to show

But is kept in a cage for no one to know

When will they realize I’m different now?

No longer the little girl who didn’t know

How to say and how to speak

Or how to show that I’m unique

One more day and now I see

A light that is glowing and beckoning to me

Telling me to come and try something new

And make a change that is long overdue.

In this light, a new way is revealed

I can see a way out, a perfect escape

I’m running up to the edge

Of a new cliff of uncertainty.

With my toes on the edge and hands in the air

I can feel the breeze running through my hair.

I shut my eyes and make my choice.

I take the leap...

And raise my voice.

I’m spreading my wings; I’m ready to fly

To see me now you must look to the sky

I’m learning my way, striving to be

The person that I always wanted to be

Now look at me and you can see

A girl who is

Breaking

     Free.
