Breaking Free

You insensitively categorize me

Branding poverty as my own while claiming me unwise

You may see me as a waste

Well that no longer applies.

My passivity seems to upsets you.

It fills you up with fear.

Knowing that your insults come in and out one ear.

Does this make you want to interfere?

Like many before me,

With the will to upsize

Regardless of my chromosomes

I will reach the skies.

You’d like to see me fail.

Become a statistic

Giving up on hopes and dreams

To you this is what’s realistic.

My confidence seems to offend you.

The way I thrive with knowledge.

My progression is inevitable

Your reassurance is my path to college.

You claim I’m on welfare,

You see me with despise,

You assume I’m a hoodlum

But please open your eyes!

My success seems to upset you.

I don’t know why but if you open your eyes

You will see that I can be triumphant

In a place you declare equalized.

I will surpass your

Prejudice

I’m ready to prove my strength,

No matter the length.

Leaving behind poverty

I will bring unto the world

The determination to dreams,

I am the catalyst.

I will break free.
