The Bones of Great Men

The times of great men are now past, because we are too much exposed now
for the leaven of myth and legend to swallow up the horror of what we really are.

There will be no man who remains proud at the last day--
not even those whose bones we coronated.

We have fought and bled and died to be remembered.
Will the horror of our memory teach our sons to suffer the same pains
to be forgotten, as our fathers were?

This poem is about:
Me
Our world
