This Body
This Body
is me
it is us
it is we
This body is mother
it is sister
it is lover
These arms have rocked children
These hips have rocked men
This mouth has screamed
“Justice”
When told to move, it replied
“No”
In the face of same, it demanded
“Change”
And in the dark it whispered
“Believe”
These legs have stood
on dirt
on tile
in heels
buckled at the knee
and marched in the streets
This body is me
it is us
it is we
