A Blank Slate

I grew up when

Mom stopped tying my shoes

For me

I grew up when

I could finally

Count to 10

I grew up when

Dolls no longer interested me

But books instead

I grew up when

I learned to drive

Mom wouldn't have to take me

Anywhere I go

I grew up when

I had a dream

Of my future

I saw school

I saw late study nights

I saw myself walking the stage

I saw hope

I grew up when

Mom stopped wiping my tears for me

She told me

Anytime you fall

Pick yourself up

Only you control your destiny

Go far

I grew up when

I began to reach for my dreams

All on my own

All for me

I grew up when

I began to see my purpose

In life

Helping others

Succeeding

Being the best version of myself

I grew up when

Time came to say goodbye

Mom said

I'm so proud

I love you

This is just

The beginning

Of a new chapter

She called it

A blank slate.
