Black(ed-out)History

Shortest month of the year
They give to remember
Thou diminished by the
Fourteen days reserved
For your one Valentine

Don't own February
Like Jesus owns December
Praised the entire month
Yet not born in winter

Undeniable lives
Honored less than the most
Controversial Figure,
While he is debated

Some FACTS are forgotten,
Societal heroes
Facing true evil, snubbed
But athletes - paraded
Jesse Owens, Forty-Two,

Remembered for a race
Or just stealing a base
They say you've paved the way.
Who paved the way for you?

This poem is about:
Me
My family
My community
My country
Our world
