Black Lives Matter
They say my ancestors were only a slave until 1865
But does that mean the generation to come were truly freed
People separated by black and white because color was all they knew
Somehow the anger towards my people had grew
Segregation was another dark time
Standing up for yourself was at its prime
The civil rights movement helped shape the present
Now we're moving forward with resentment
In the coming years we've made progress but not too much
People educating themselves has came in clutch
Other races using black derogatory terms left and right
My people letting them without putting up a fight
Black men getting shot
Black women being treated like the minority without a thought
Racist cops abusing their power
Our men getting arrested by the hour
Times haven't changed it's hidden undercover
You check the news and the white man has killed another brother
George Floyd, Amaud Arbery, these are recent
The justice system isn't even half as decent
Breonna Taylor's case hasn't been brought to justice
At this point, we'll never get a rest
We've dug so deep, we've become so obsessed
Our community doesn't like the truth, they're honestly pressed
Saying All Lives Matter is a protest to our protest
Screaming Black Lives Matter, we'll never get a rest
My people are hurting right now, Black Lives Matter this isn't a test
Forever saying, Black Lives Matter
