Black Girl Affirmation

Black girls with their black lips

and their black hips it's just astonishing

How we're born with something you

pay to put inside of you

these hips are natural boo

You asked how I got these curves , not by squats

look at my mama

My friends ask me why I never wear tights , I say just to sease the drama

Thighs thick like aunt Jemima's pancake mix

Waist skinny like the jeans i'm not allowed to wear because

even my guardian knows that the Galaxy lies in my hips

But these hips aren't where the curves begin

See ,my afro rounds it all off nicely

Pact in , blue magic slathered down the scalp

You asked how I got this divine dome of curls

I SAY , I don't follow trends

While the rest of my friends where getting perms

I asked for a slight snip of my split ends

I wear yellow in the summertime because It helps my melanin pop .

I sit in white classrooms and learn white history

like black bodies didn't drop to make all of this shit happen

ain't no laughing. in the pews listen to the hymns that the walls sing

we sing because were happy and dare a mother fucker to interrupt

i am a angry black woman ,

don't fight with my fist but shit gets popping when i grab that pen and paper

My hair is my identity

Thick strands durrive from my scalp like the branches of that old oak tree

behind grandmas house

Got Stevie wonder on my chest

And not knowing who he is WILL GET YOU PUNCHED IN THE THROAT

PUT SOME RESPECT ON MY HERITAGE NIGGA

Don't touch my hair while I'm in the check out line in Kroger

because I will turn around with the fury of my father's right hand and

Write

Another poem to add to my collection of poems

About how badly I wanna slap the privilege out of the

bodies of  ignorant white men and women who ask me how I get my hair so curly

Or how my skin is so bronze

I wear a black power fist in my hair to remind you of how much power

a black fist still has and forever will have

Isn't it beautiful

So magnificent how a woman , carved out of Mahogany wood could produce life

and at the same time protect herself even from men with shse same color skin as her
