Black Like Blue

Black like blue

Black like blue

Black like me and you

Black like grits in the morning and arguments

Of sugar or milk

Nah, that's just ilk!

Black like dixie peach

Black like blue hair grease

Black like, black like

Burning kitchens

Smells of singed existence

Hair-less

Black like moses - Harriet

Black like malcolm

Missing from the mantel

Black like JFK’s smile,

Next to Martin

Black like freedom marches

Sit ins, sit downs

Moral break downs

Trying not to be

Black like I’m Cherokee

Black like your mama wears combat boots to church

Black like government cheese

And syphilis shots

I mean flu shots

Black like the 1st of the month belongs

To all of YOU

But counting numbers seems like it

Belonged to them too

Black like good humor don't exist

Black like tv

Only had two colors

But still seeing absolutely nothing

Like me, even in monotones

I mean duotones

Black like my hair

Black like truth or dare

Kick the can,

Street lights on

Girl you betta go-on

Black like the bruises on a banana

Seconds

Sweet and yellow and brown and black

Black like :

Sambo, Jim-boy, Ray-Ray, Muhammad, akbar, Martin, Malcolm, Emit Tills split head

And his mama’s broken tears

Sounding like Trevon’s,...... mama’s too

Black like Lena, Dorothy

Not the one from Oz though

Like Marian sang that thing too, like Billie, like , like Fantasia’s lips and Jennifer’s hips

And Dream Girls biggests hits

Like, like colored girls and rainbows who had enough

Black like, like aunt sara, sophonia , sweet thang...and and they call me

They call me Peaches!

Black like queens

And kings

And common folk all wearing crowns talking bout they down

Like people you know before the Mayflower

Black like, like

God...Blasphemy

God and got not color

Black, black just like me.
