The black bird

The black bird with a golden patch
Flew away unable to hatch
Her feet sore from the search
She needed only a touch

The black bird broke her wings
She hit along the rings
The pain was unbearable
But the weather got terrible

The black bird got caged
And slowly she aged
And grew tired
Her cage behind the yard

The black bird froze
Beside her grew a rose
Far away there was a whistle
She died a black bird
