Black

The absence of color, the absence of light

What you would find in the dark of the night

What you would wear to a funeral, mourning over death

The soul-taking feeling of being depressed

The warm feeling when you wear it in the sun

But cold when you think your days are done

The empty feeling of being all alone

The lack of confidence next to someone’s glow

The still silence when no one is there

The being ignored by those who do not care

The taste of licorice, the scent of smoke

The outcast feeling when you don’t get a joke

The sound of a raindrop that falls in an empty well

The truth you hide that you can never tell

Black is hate, black is fear

Black is the sadness when you shed a tear

The unknown cure to the ill of cancer

Black is the questions that cannot be answered
