What can be different?
What could have been?
Why is there You and Me
But I can't seem to find an Us?
Every where I turn there
Is a boundary I can't cross.
 

What happened last year
Was a difficult time.
Both You and Me
Felt no reason or rhyme,
But We made it through.
Now we begin again.

The road was rough
Every where rumors circled,
Collided in air.
What was between Us
No longer held meaning
Because it belonged to them.

Now We see what is
Real and what is not.
What happens between Us
Stays between You and Me,
That is the only
written rule in existence.

But the unwritten rule says that
No one can know.
The unwritten rule says that
This is all that we are.
The unwritten rules are
What separate Us.

I know you still think
of that time last year.
I know that you think
About Us as a unit.
I know that you think that
It's what I want to be.

But I think about Us
As it's meant to be.
That there is no We
Just a You and a Me.
That we are just Friends,
That is all that I want.

Just Us as a Pair,
But a Pair that relies
On each other in the most
Separate of senses,
Just You and Me
and a space between Us.
