"I've tried a long time to make myself care and 

I just don't. So I'be given up. I might as well take

advantage of the benefits that come with that."


"And what are those benefits?" He asked.


"That I can take care of others, no matter the cost.

And usually by the time I realize how its hurt me,

they are too far gone before they think to turn around

and check on me. And I'd prefer it that way. I wouldn't

want their exposure to the repercussions of their healing to 

deter the healing itself."


And it was then that he knew there was nothing he could

say to change her mind. So he let her rest on his shoulder

and gave her the satisfaction of pretending he didn't see

the tear on her cheek.
