"I've tried a long time to make myself care and
I just don't. So I'be given up. I might as well take
advantage of the benefits that come with that."
"And what are those benefits?" He asked.
"That I can take care of others, no matter the cost.
And usually by the time I realize how its hurt me,
they are too far gone before they think to turn around
and check on me. And I'd prefer it that way. I wouldn't
want their exposure to the repercussions of their healing to
deter the healing itself."
And it was then that he knew there was nothing he could
say to change her mind. So he let her rest on his shoulder
and gave her the satisfaction of pretending he didn't see
the tear on her cheek.
