Bench Warmers
Shall I talk about the strangers?
A man once sat here
With a woman by his side
They sat in silence
Until he said upon her,
"I love you more than the moon loves the star that makes it shine"
And she said nothing,
But gave him a heartfelt smile.
Shall I mention the kiss?
A couple once sat here
So smitten was she
He, bewildered by her beauty,
He said to her gently,
"I love you more than the moon loves the star that makes it shine"
She leaned over to kiss him,
He kissed her back.
Shall I tell what this bench is for?
A lonely man once sat here
And sipped on the fruitful juice of life
He realized a plaque on his back
Which said,
"I love you more than the moon loves the star that makes it shine,
From an old man to his lovely wife"
And the man on the bench gave a light chuckle
But then looked over and
No longer saw the other said smile.
At the bench on the right a man sat with his wife,
And the man on the bench envied the other man's beautiful living wife.
