Being A Flower

Brown baby girl
With your eyes wandering wildly
I cannot shield you from the world
I cannot stop you from being yourself
But I can tell you what I think you should be
You, my sweet child, should be a flower
One that grows in a field filled with weeds
Dare to be different when the world around you remains the same
One that blossoms into a lovely young lady
With outstretched petals that grasp for the world that is beyond its reach
And with your roots found buried in the soil
Soak up all the knowledge that comes to you and learn from it
Sweet child.
Beautiful flower.
Don’t let this world deprive you of the knowledge that is deeply rooted within you.
