Behind the Scenes

Flash-lights turn on.

She stands center stage,

clothed in a smile.

The audience is a roaring lion;

Its prey makes no attempt to evade.

She tames the lion gracefully,

and praces away.

But look backstage,

noice the unseen.

They are dressed in black,

camouflaged in the curtains- are they there?

There is no lion trying to attack them.

Oddly, they wish that there were.

They crave attention.

(Leave Theater)

What is the difference,

between both of them?

One illuminates, the other blends in.

However, they share the same secret.

Neither of them is happy-

they want to trade lives...

Sarah Heiniger

Hi- I was tasked with the job to choose a poem form and then writing a poem following that form, meter, and rhyme scheme. The theme was nature, respect, and life . I am a dancer and so this poem accurately depicts my internal struggles as a mentally prepare to go on stage for a performance.
