Behind The Curtain

Before the curtains open
Wipe the tears and smiles on
Just like I've always practiced
Only doing what I thought
Was right
What I want is to fight
Blinded by the spot light
No one knows my stage fright
They always say dont judge a book by its cover
Judge it by its pages
Funny thing bout the stage is
You show what they wanna see on display
Sold out theatre
No ones here to meet ya
They all want a good show
Thats all they really want
The more you learn the more you know
But it might come back to haunt
You.
I cant run from my problems
So I pretended that they're not there
Too tired to try and solve em
No help when no one cares
Well no one that matters anyways
Family, but they're supposed to
Friends, when you got them
I have none just a mom and dad who
Have their own problems
Why drag them into mine
Just smile and wave, Mary
Pray that they dont mind
What they see
Like kids in the hallway
Who look right past me
Like I'm not 5'10
Like I'm 2'8
Like I'm not worth their eyes
I'm trying for their sake
Hope they like what they read
They dont bother with the book
They have enough wanna-be's
So I'm not worth a second look
But I put my foot out on a wooden stage
And it doesn't matter what's on the pages
They're only hearing what I'm saying
They stop to hear me singing
They clap cuz I did my thing and
They get up to go home
Not a smile for the actor
Not a question "what's the matter?"
"Aren't you proud of your show?
I bet now they're gonna love ya
the more you learn the more you know"
I just smiled and looked pretty
Wouldn't know it if I hit them
That that smiling girl was struggling
No one ever knew
Cuz no ever sees me
