Because I Love You (In School)

Location

I'm in 5th grade and I

see you on the swingset with

Grace Tovar instead of me.

I still only get you a

Valentine present.

Because I Love You.

I'm in 6th grade and I

meet your younger brother. I

remember when you used to

look like that. I like him.

Because I Love You.

I'm in 7th grade and I

meet and become best friends

with the girl you're so

entirely in love with. I tell

you the things she says about you.

Because I Love You.

I'm in 8th grade and I

can't stop thinking about

the night before. 20 minutes

with you behind the bushes.

Because I Love You.

I'm in 8th grade and I

know that the night

before was only "the

night before", to you. But

I still stick around.

Because I Love You.

I'm in 9th grade and I

haven't heard your voice

or seen your face in so long.

Someone says your name and

it sends an electric shock

through my spine.

Because I Love You.

I'm in 10th grade and I

see you in the hallway. A

person I no longer know

anymore. My heart aches and

I feel like I'm going to collapse.

Because I Love You.

I'm in 11th grade and I

ask you how you're doing.

Bell replies, "He's fine".

but I don't care what she

knows I care about you.

Because I Love You.

I'm in 11th grade and I

am 17 and you tell me

"Happy Birthday!" and

that you miss me. It takes

everything I have to not

say that I miss you, too.

Because I Love You.

I'm in 11th grade and I

listen to you cry because

Bell broke your heart

again. In that moment

it feels like a good time

to say "I Love You".

But I don't.

Because I Love You.

I'm in 11th grade and I

find out that you're

sleeping with my best

friend. I know you're

going through a time right

now. So it doesn't break

my heart.

Because I Love You.

I'm in 11th grade and I

am told that I am about

to get my ass beat. Bell

doesn't like that choices you

made or that I was one of them.

Because I Love You.

I'm in 12th grade and I

am surprised that you

hope that I'm doing well. I

ask to see you and I have

never been kissed so hard

or so sincere.

Because I Love You.

I'm in 12th grade and I

am staying at my friend's

house which happens to

be the same one you

just moved into. I

am ecstatic.

Because I Love You.

I'm in 12th grade and I

am seeing you everyday. For

the first time in so long I

am happy. Our mornings

are filled with black coffee

and red cigarettes, and our

nights are filled with long

walks and tall bottles. I

wouldn't trade a second of

it for the world.

Because I Love You.

I'm in 12th grade and I

no longer have that

everlasting feeling. Your

words change to "I hate

you", and Bell is around

the house more often, but

I keep making breakfast.

Because I Love You.

I'm in 12th grade and I

pick out gifts from your

birthday list on my phone.

Your birthday is in two

weeks, but I haven't

spoken to you in three.

Because I Love You.

I'm graduated and I

try not to think about

you anymore, but it

doesn't work. Scorpios

are everywhere, everyone

is dying their hair blonde, I

was cheated on with a

girl named Belle, and I can't

find that same sparkle

in any other set of blue

eyes. No wonder I am

such a sucker for brown. I

am not waiting for you

any longer, although

I will be there in 10 minutes

if you call me up.

Because I Love You.
