Because I Love You

“What Is Love?”

Love isn't a feeling

Love is a verb

We've cheapened it and weakened it

What it means now is absurd

Love doesn't mean joy

Love doesn't mean peace

It doesn't mean candlelight dinners

Or a beautiful symphony

Love doesn't mean laughter

It doesn't mean perfection

It means sacrificing yourself

And walking in another’s direction

Love is an action

Love is something we live

Love is when you are selfless

When you patiently forgive

When you work with someone

And make them a better person

It's when you believe

That another soul is worth it

Worth staying up all night

And crying when they cry

Worth giving up your dreams

Being wrong when you are right

It’s when you sit in silence

And listen to their stories

It’s when you take a step back

And let them achieve their glory

And though few are called

To give up their lives

Sometimes when we love

Something we want dies

And so you see, love isn’t easy

It isn’t romantic and sweet

Experiencing pain

Is rarely pleasing

But don’t stop loving

Don’t stop pushing through

Don’t give up on them

Maybe all they’ve got is you

And at the end of it all

If they ask why you saw them through

You can smile and tell them

“It’s because I love you.”
