Because I love You

It has taken so long to get to this point

We have failed over and over again

But somehow it has finally worked

I love you.

Believe me, we still have a long way to go

But we’re getting better

There’s not as much hurt anymore

You used to disgust me

I would always take my anger out on you

Every cut I made,

I meant it

But now,

I believe in us

We have something real

We just have to keep working at it

We’re so close

When I see you in the mirror

I don’t get as many bad thoughts

That’s how I know

One day we’ll get there

I promise.

I’ll love you purely

Giving up is not an option

Because one day,

When we both have wrinkles in our eyes

And our daughter asks,

“Mama, do you love yourself?”

and without hesitation,

We will look at her

And say yes.
