Because I Love You

I Like You Because

I like you because

You make me laugh,

You listen when I’m hurting,

You tell me I’m strong, and you support me more than anyone else.

I like you because

You pay attention to my interests,

And you try to take part.

Plus you share with me yours

And want to include me.

I like you because

You respect me and act like it.

Because I Like You

Because I like you

I make a point to show my appreciation

When you do things I appreciate.

Because I like you

I trust you

And work hard to be someone you can trust back.

Because I like you

I include you in my decisions and what’s happening in my life

And try to be apart of yours.

Because I like you

I care about you and try to show it.

I Love You Because

I love you because

You’re smile makes me feel like my stomach is a kettle caught mid boil:

Bubbling and jumping with reckless abandon,

And anticipation of something sweet and soothing to follow.

I love you because

Whether the world feels like it’s crashing down or just beginning to crack a little,

My first thought is to go to you;

Because even when you can’t fix a bit, you somehow make it better.

I love you because

My insomnia is no longer the effect of anxiety and stress and fear

But instead caused by a hyperactive imagination and overexcitement about you and I.

I love you because

I don’t know how not to.

Because I Love You

Because I love you

I wake up every morning thinking about you

And fall asleep every night the same way.

Because I love you

I overlook your flaws,

And I overlook our flaws.

There’s the issue.

Because I love you

I ignore the fact that I’m upset about what you said.

Why cause issues about it

When it doesn’t change how i feel about you?

Because I love you

I accept that we don’t talk as much as we used to;

-We’re probably just busy

-We’re both going through some stuff

-We're just out of the honeymoon phase.

Because I love you

I don’t tell you that the insomnia has gotten worse,

Because i can’t stop running over things in my head.

How you said this...

How you did this...

How we’ve changed.

Because what does it matter as long as I still love you?

Because I love you

I don’t go to you when the world begins to crack

Even though you are still my first thought.

Because I love you

I blame myself for you not noticing I am hurting;

For not thinking about me as much as I do you.

Because I love you

I begin to keep secrets,

So that I won’t hurt you.

Like how now when I see you smile I doubt it intentions,

And how that boil in my stomach is beginning to feel too hot for comfort.

Because I love you

I work harder than ever to make sure you still love me;

And in the process I notice:

Because I love you

I’ve forgotten to love myself.

***

I like you because

When I told you I couldn’t do this anymore,

You were upset, but you respected my decision.

Because I like you

I made sure we stayed friends;

And I still tell you how grateful I am to have you in my life.

I love you because

Even through all this

You are still the one person I trust more than anyone

And are the best friend I’ve ever had.

Because I love you

I made a point to try and fix us.

And though our relationship isn’t what it was,

We learned to communicate;

To be present rather than available

To not take something this good for granted.

Because I love you

I fight for some version of us;

And because I love me,

I learned the difference

Between when to fight for what I have

And when to fight for something better.
