Because I love you.

Because I love you,

I thought it was okay to spend all my energy on you.

My grades started dropping,

And I was up every night talking to you.

Because I love you,

I gave you all my passwords.

You selected my friends for me,

And I still can’t believe you chose when I’d go out and when I’d stay home.

Because I love you,

I did your school work for you.

I wanted to see you succeed,

And I still can’t believe I didn’t see myself falling in that process.

Because I love you,

I fought with my mom.

Yelled at her,

And I still can’t believe I almost left her for you.

Because I love you,

I was blind to see what you were doing.

You were corrupting me and ruining my life,

And I still can’t believe I thought you were protecting me.

Because I love you,

I started seeing things for how they really were.

I wasn’t going to fall down in life,

And I still can’t believe I saved myself from regretting it forever.

Because I love you,

I’ll miss you forever.

Because I love you,

I’m going to do what’s best for me,

Because that’s what you would’ve wanted.

Because I love you,

I had to let you go.
