Because I Love Myself

Intensity, manipulation, jealousy

Belittlement, betrayal…

Hurt

Because I love you

I stay

Because I love you

I forgot my worth

My abilities, even myself

I cover myself with makeup and clothing

An opaque veil over the black and blue

Because I love you

Screaming, hitting, crying

Finally

Realization conquers all

I am enough

I uncover myself, revealing the black and blue

I wear it with pride

I know what I deserve

Encouragement, happiness

Warmth, acceptance, respect

Because I love myself
