Because I love me

Because I love you, I will be there

Whenever you need me

At three am in the pouring rain,

When your gas tank ran dry.

Because I love you, I’ll help you

I’ll pick up the pieces

I’ll buy the glue

I’ll put it together again.

Because I love you, I’ll listen

All night, if I have to

When I have work in the morning

When I’m so tired it aches

As you talk yourself in circles

To help you feel better.

Because I love you, I will lift you up

In any way I can

I will send cards and letters

I will bake cakes

I will clean your room

Because I loved you

I watched you crumbling

I watched you falling

I watched you refuse my hand

I watched you die in fragments

Because I love me

I am leaving today

I will never, ever

Burn myself alive

To keep you warm again
