Beauty Is Not A Debt

I know I’m beautiful.

The compliments are nice…

But not new.

Not meaningful.

Not unique.

You told me I was wearing a nice shirt-

I know this, but I say thank you for the acknowledgment and affirmation.

I don’t owe you for something I didn’t ask for.

Compliments are wonderful gifts,

Accepting them doesn’t guarantee the return of a favor.

So when you tell me that my clothing shows of my figure

Or that my smile is pretty

Or that I look cute

Or that I’m sexy

I do not owe you a drink

A dance

A date

sex.

I don’t owe you for telling me something I already knew
