Be You

Sun, 09/07/2014 - 21:54 -- Riah

Be weird, but not too weird

Be grown, but not too grown

Be smart, but not too smart

Be happy, but not too happy

Be you, but not completely you

Society dictates

Society administrates

Society desecrates

Society is

What Society does

A monstrous machine

Built to devour

And lick clean

To gnaw on bones

Of those who dared to say no

I've been there

Plaid pants, long hair

Wooden jewelry, hundred yard stare

Its ignorance

Ignorance of the difference

That is life

Ignorance of the world

As it changes around us

And here we are

Stuck

Stuck in an endless loop

Set on fast forward

Stuck in a system

Crumbling to the ground

Stuck in a school

Judging eyes surround us

Stuck in a body

We aren't meant to be

Because that's what

They tell us

Right?

Too fat, too skinny

Too smart, to dumb

Jock, geek

Normal, freak

Serious, funny

Cool, crummy

Just stop

So here's to all the people

Who've been called crazy names

Who've faded from the light

And know that constant pain

Its tough

Finding yourself

Hidden by their hate

But it does eventually get better

I should know, I'm doing great

I've shed all expectations

Save for my own

Living life for me

And my girl back home

I've got goals

Reaching for the stars

Forgetting about Society

I know that I'll go far

I've been dreaming

Deep from within

Ready for tomorrow

I will fly soon, I will win

So here's to all the people

Who's life they have spent silent

Because they are too afraid to shout

Society isn't changing

But we can kick it out
