What is civil rights?
What is it to us today?
We as a new generation use racism as comedy,
when racism was war to our families not too long ago.
Or maybe it still is?
Are we stupid? Are we dumb? Are we blind?
We are mocked by others, but we allow it because we mock ourselves.
Civil rights of today? What are they?
We can vote. We can do many things we couldn't before.
However, I'm not sure we can proudly proclaim ourselves black.
I am a conflicted youth. I am humbled by ancestors, yet embarrassed by my peers.
The jokes are the flames, but our actions are the fuel to the fire.
We have a new fight. A fight to be people that those who walked before us fought so hard for us to be.
The Battle of Modern Day Youth is now, we are soldiers, because we have to be.
