Back2School

back to school

back to hitting the books

back to hitting myself

for not being someone else

for struggling

Back to school

back to caring more about the grade

than how things work that way

back to wanting just to get home everyday

back to "hey how are you"

"i missed you so much"

back to why didnt you visit me

back to this lack of empathy

back to covering my shoulder

so those boy wont want to stare

back to wearing loose pants and

ignoring whats happening over there

back to crying

and pleading

and messing up

and bleeding

back to papers marked with red

back to a heart filled with dread

back to school

back to folders

back to bags over our shoulders

back to bending over backwards

back to slumping forward

back to red eyes

back to tired

to having our nerves wired

back to back with all this stress

all this dwelling in our heads

back to school

back to this

back to what else did i miss

and back to losing myself

to become someone else

for the photos

the selfies

the existential crises

sign my yearbook

girl we're not there yet

i signed it with regret

but for now we're back to school

thinking that we're cool

thinking that we got an image

a rep

and we're too cool for school.

for now we're back to school.
