The Awesome Rainbow Baby

It was astonishing when I found out that you would be in my life,

It was thrilling the moment I told your dad we were expecting you.

It was breath-taking the second we first saw your heartbeat,

And amazing how dad and I dreamt about you.

It was confusing when you weren’t moving,

Absolutely devastating when there was no heartbeat—just silence.

It was frustrating how people in my life treated me differently,

And comforting when those closest to me came by my side.

Some friends were lost, some friends were made.

Dad and I became closer and stronger.

You, my child, gave us a better view of family, love, and the world around us.

It was marvelous how I began to create a spiritual relationship with you,

An inspiring love only you and I will share, that no one else will ever know.

It is invigorating how you have helped me help others,

And wonderful how I still love you tremendously.

Dad and I felt joyful when we found out your sister was coming,

Yet nervous we wouldn’t meet her on earth.

We are relieved she is here with us now, six months and strong,

And grateful she has a brother in heaven watching over her.

Astonishing, thrilling, breath-taking, amazing,

Confusing, devastating, frustrating, and comforting.

Marvelous, inspiring, invigorating, wonderful,

Joyful, nervous, relieved, and grateful.

An awe-inspiring life journey many people know,

Of one baby in heaven, and one in their arms.

A spiritual endeavor for a mother and father,

Unknown to the naked eye, but deep down…

We understand the awesome treasure we hold.
