The Average Selfie

Her pictures are hardly the same as before

Her filters and makeup hide acne and pores

Her head's tilted slightly to the left or right side

Depending on which scar or bump she wishes to hide

Fifty seven pictures she will pose for and take

She'll then file those down to what makes her look fake

The sunlight changes her skin tone the angle changes her size

She makes herself the perfect girl, a barbie in her eyes

She'll then post the picture and wait for the likes to roll in

To prove to herself and others that she has hundreds of following friends

When the likes finally start to flow she'll take off her disguise

The lipstick on her lips and the mascara on her eyes

She'll wipe off all the concealor hiding her freckles or moles

The makeup comes running off into the sink bowl

She won't look in the mirror because she doesn't like that girl

The girl she deems not pretty enough to make it in this world

But what she doesn't see is the softness of her eyes

The soft blush that covers her face when she's nervous or shy

What she doesn't see is the way she laughs around

The way that it makes others stop and listen to the sound

What she doesn't see is that the girl she keeps inside

Is so natural and beautiful that she doesn't need to hide

Her beauty came installed in the genetics that built her

But I doubt she'd ever post a selfie with #NoFilter
