On This Autumn evening

Sat, 09/01/2018 - 18:25 -- mdiaz36

I present myself among this crowd to calmly sermonize my thoughts

As I speak tonight do not be alarmed

For I only speak the thoughts of you

And most stable beings alike

I run down fifth avenue chasing the restless sun

But it calmly escapes my grasp, as darkness is yet to come

I hear an outcry of the clouds

& the subtle breaths of air

As My mother falls besides me, still, breathless

Grasping at her chest

But she doesn’t reach for her heart

Instead she attempts to save her lungs

For she wants to experience what she expressed

To her young ones as, America’s Breath of Freedom

Tonight, begins the war

Those who have sailed the oceans

& scaled the walls

& lied through their teeth

In order to reach a state of liberation,

Well Tonight they shrivel at the thought of unforeseen loss

Those who’s dreams were short lived

& families destroyed, by a storm who

is yet to reach its eye

On this night, I stumble upon this worn-down stage,

Where many have stood before me

Flooded by the emotions of those whose lives were lost in fear,

In strength, in will, in might and endless courage,

and stories we were meant to hear of those who’s toes fell short of the sand

whose hands wore down before reaching the top of the hill

On this day, we remember the men, women, teachers, students, immigrants and children

Who were in seek of serenity’s beauty

And stand for those whose tireless feet are yet to start the journey
