One step forward

Two steps back

It never goes away.

On the way, I plan it out

I know what to say

How to answer

How to act.

But then I walk into the room

And even as they watch the television

Their minds are on me

"Why are you so quiet?"

"You're talkative."

"She doesn't say much."

My heart races

My palms sweat

My mind matches my heart's pace

And no one gets it.

They just wonder why I can't move

And judge and laugh under their breath

When I leave the room

I can hear their whispers about me from miles away

Distract yourself

Don't worry.

Someday, you'll be okay.

Please, pray to God

Get out of my head.
