Anxiety

Who is my mentor?

Who helped me make it through?

Ironically, you.

You caused my pain.

You caused my sorrow.

But you also led me to tomorrow.

When I felt alone and broken

When I felt accomplished and satisfied

You were right there by my side.

Why didn’t you just leave me alone?

Why didn’t you just let me feel at ease?

To “help me grow” you’d tease

It used to piss me off

It used to make me cry

But I’m done asking why

I now see the lessons you’ve taught me

I now see the comfort you’ve brought me

And although I never would’ve asked for this,

And although I often felt remiss,

You’ve made me stronger

You’ve empowered me

Helped me become all that I can be

I never asked for medication

I never asked for you

But somehow, we’ve made it through.
