Racial discrimination is there a color associated with me?
Or do you look at my face and dark roots is all you see?
Will the fighting and violence ever stop?
Or will civil injustice continue at the hands cops?
Marches and Boycotts seemed endless.
While the pain many felt was relentless.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness as Dr. King once said.
But, who will shed the light once we are tucked in bed?
Or haunted by the memories that our ancestors are dead?
Some say things have changed?
Well maybe, but why do people still get outraged by the Trayvon Martin case?
I want to believe that none of this was a waste.
But when your fiance is pulled over every day because of the type of car he drives
Who would believe in such a great compromise?
That black people could someday be equal.
I pray more, love harder, and show repect, so to who do I owe this incredible debt?
At least my president is black, does that mean that the civil rights movement gave back?
I can vote, obtain an education, I am free!
Wait.... am I really? Answer me.
