Animal Kingdom

Welcome to the Stars and Stripes Zoo.

Where the phrase ‘land of the free’ is

Spray painted in red on the representative ewe,

And spread through the place by a nasty rat flea.

But it’s hard to be free when you’re locked in a cage,

Or trapped in a tank with no way to escape.

If you don’t make the right wage and you’re not the right age,

Then you can’t be in charge, can’t be the head ape.

They carry on conducting their monkey business, while we all sit on the edge of our seats,

Watching monkey see, and monkey do.

One follows the next, dragging beside them briefcases of lies and imaginary treats,

Promising to make a great zoo, and pretending to create some sort of breakthrough.

They say we have the same rights, how neat!

That we live in equality, so free we could sing.

But we smaller creatures know we're living in an animal kingdom of deceit;

A place where there are plenty of fish in the tank, but none of them will ever be crowned king.
