American Dream

The American dream.
Is it a joke or a passion?
Should we rush after it and put our heart and soul on the line?
Or wait it out and hope that karma will give it to us if we are deserving?
Are we going to be the ones who take the chance for someone more deserving of this said dream?
Are we even deserving of this dream?
“Strive for it and it will come true.”
We are fed this day in and day out from the moment we could understand what those words meant.
But what about for those who can't get what they dreamed of,
No matter how hard they tried?
Does the American dream still exist for them?
And for those who achieve said “American dream,
What is it really like?
Is it as liberating as it seems?
Or is it a bunch of baloney?
Do you look back and see the other people still striving to be where you are,
And think of yourself as higher and mightier than them?
Or does it humble you see that people struggle day after day just to put food on the table,
Or to get running water,
Or to pay for those unnecessary bills to keep their family happy?
Would laugh in their face if you spent a day in their life?
The American dream is exactly that.
A dream.
Something to tide us over and keep us working for something,
Anything.
And idea used to manipulate the people thinking they have a chance to be where their bosses are,
And do what their bosses do.
Is it fair?
No.
Is it just?
Absolutely not.
Is it happening?
Every day of every year of every century.
But the true and essential question we should be asking is,
When is it going to stop?
