America, the beautiful

Jeremiah 18:7-8 New English Translation (NET Bible)

There are times, Jeremiah, when I threaten to uproot, tear down, and destroy a nation or kingdom.  8 But if that nation I threatened stops doing wrong, I will cancel the destruction I intended to do to it.

If you don't see any changes for the better

than destruction is working from within

Politics to some is the gospel

and to some a wayward call.

One thing for sure it's very hostile

and some of us are prone to fall.

Follow directions from some fellows

Who will tell us what to do

Day after day they will show

what it took us years to know

Are they dumb? Surely not.

Unlimited grants are what they got.

to tell us the things we like or not

even those things we long forgot

Now our leaders are on the spot

for searching the things we did not

Is our country to decay and rot

or is there hope for the entire lot?

As they tell others what to do.

Smile! They don't need any proof

to show that we're a bunch of goofs

who cannot decide for our own good.

For we accept with utmost care

directions given with lots of flair

and then go on ourselves to compare

with others that receive a free fare.

It is sad to say this whole affair

is in bad taste, does anyone care?

Only the group that seems all to bear

is the lowest level in our foundation.
