What does teaching mean to me?

A task that gives children the power to climb the education tree.

 

What does teaching mean today?

Any task that allows students to pass their tests each day.

 

Some teachers believe in teaching only to the tests

To ensure they have money to later invest.

 

"I want to be a teacher to help young kids" is an extinct phrase

For now it goes "I want kids to pass their tests so I appear better in the standards maze"

 

Why must teachers teach in one certain way?

Instead of putting their efforts into each and every student each day?

 

I wish more teachers enjoyed their jobs instead of wondering how not to lose it

I wish the state of Ohio realized children learn in different ways, I must admit.

 

Some children require more attention and help

While others you may never hear a yelp.

 

So government, stop forcing teachers to educate one certain way

and instead, focus on the children who still need time to love and play.
