All Told,

Done? Is that the last schoolbell I hear?

Done? The close of an academic year

Over, the end, finished, extinguished

Done, completed, the duties relinquished

Over, the finite objective complete

Over, at last the clock has been beat

Finished, now at last one could relax

Over, no more shall strength be taxed

Finished, crossing the line at the end

Finished, receiving now the praise of friends

The end, at last the race is done

Finished, only to see the aftermath begun

The end, the last of the dust settles down

The end, but now regret starts his round

Completion sees only something’s fresh start

The end is not that, for it’s something begot

Completion, a wholeness of all rendered finished

Completion, the true close, ambition has vanished

Extinguished the need to retask oneself

Completion, contented to lie on a shelf

Extinguished, the end of all desire

Extinguished, the light of a soul on fire Death,

the true finish of all that’s begun

Extinguished… But is it all actually done?
