Air Conditioning

School’s finally out, and it’s almost time to sup,
But you have to wait outside for your mom to pick you up.
It’s boiling out here, feels like one hundred and three
And you can’t help but think, “Oh why is it me?
It’s bad enough I have to sit here and rot,
But now I have to when it’s so freaking hot!”
You worry that maybe she’s somehow forgotten
Or that this is the work of your older brother’s plottin’.
He’s always playing these kinds of tricks
Ever since you were old enough to play pick up sticks.
You can feel your shoes melting, and you start to despair
When you hear a car horn from out of nowhere!
It’s Susan, your old babysitter from down the street
And she says, “Come get in, and out of this heat!”
You happily jump in, you’re finally home free,
While you think to yourself, “Thank goodness for AC.”
