Bound to a space, the world passes me.
Confined and alone I wish for a day where I am free.

Reality sets, and festers in like salt to a wound.
Glaring through my steel; I close my heart, and shut my eyes!

Never again shall I taste the sweet flavor or the sky.
The bars rattle, the tumblers turn, and then enters a star.

My dreary lair now aglow,
Content falls, smile, STOP!
......And say no more.

This poem was inspired by my two song birds. One died and the other was sad and bitter soon after. Then we added another friend for him to play with, but soon after he died too. We like to think that he could not contain his happiness and he died.

Just wanted to say that I thought this was really, really good and I enjoyed it very much. :) Your word choices were excellent and you managed to convey a really great image of the subject of the poem.
