Against My Own Mind

Something is calling me

It is a whisper in the dead of the night

A memory I can no longer see

The flutter of wings when a bird takes flight

The salty wind over the sea

I push against this something with all my might

But it is stronger than me

It crowds towards the edges of my sight

Where only black should be

I already know that I must lose this fight

Tears well up inside of me

A distant memory flickers like a candle light

And I cannot hold on

I cannot hold on

I cannot

I

cry

the child inside was released

i hug my knees and rock myself to sleep

in my dreams i can forget

about everything that i can't change

i can write my own fairytale

act it out and hope it becomes real

maybe if i fall enough times

i'll remember how to stand
