Afraid

Afraid.

Body tingling, breath quickening

Pulse racing.

Thrown into the world,

-A world that believes it will all be

OK.

Go to school.

Get your education.

Walk the beaten path and you’ll be

JUST FINE.

No one tells you what it’s like.

When you are finally truly

Alone..

No one can prepare you for the

bills that pill up on the table.

Overdue and unpaid.

The tests you have to pass so you can

Get your education.

The long nights of work that

barely make ends

meet so you can live,

Live closer to those jobs you really want.

Those dreams you can taste but cannot

Touch.

No one there to help you but

Yourself.

Will you beat the fear?

Fear of never

Never getting that job.

That dream you walk through in your sleep..

The dream you are happy,

SUCCESSFUL.

But you are always working,

Always studying.

Always struggling.

To be no longer

Afraid.

To wake from the dream and realize

It’s no longer a dream.

It’s your life.

Only its not.

Not until we let go of the fear.

Unafraid.

This is my take on being a college student.. We never know what's coming for us after college. After we spend years studying and racking up debt only to not have the assurence we will, some day, get that dream job. I pay for school alone. Pay for my apartment alone. Barely able to pay all the bills, it's hard to remember what I'm working towards. I will graduate and get my dream job someday. I just don't know when that day will come. Til then, I'm trying to remain unafraid (: Unafraid of what could be ahead.
