Acrophobia

Observing this sleek steel structure
As it crackles, knocks, and clinks
The upward tops and downward drops
I shutter just to think

My heart starts to sink
I’m tempted to stall
I force myself in line
Only sixteen after all

With my friends all around
To support and encourage
My small seed of courage
Now began to flourish

At the front of the line
I feel goose bumps bubble
No turning back now
As we’re strapped in and buckled

Slowly climbing high in the sky
To the coaster’s mighty peak
I look down in amazement and marvel
At the “ant like” people I see

As we begin our decent
I close my eyes tight Acrophobia
Why must you control my life?

I gradually open them
And now understand
No longer will that fear
Define me as a man
